Founded as Pinnegar Smith Architects in 1992, the practice has always been based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. In 2004, the firm rebranded to Pinnegar Hayward Design (PHd), reflecting its two founding partners, Allan Pinnegar and Max Hayward.
In 2013, Simon Wills and Joe White became partners, reinforcing leadership and helping to grow the firm post-recession. Since then, PHd has expanded from 11 to around 40 professionals, delivering thoughtful design solutions on time and within budget.
Following Allan and Max's retirement in 2016, Simon and Joe continued to lead the firm’s growth. In 2022, they promoted Mike Hill and Jake Hillman to Directors, further strengthening the senior management team.
