Communities

Pinnegar Hayward Design believe in being part of our local community and supporting wherever we can through our ESG policy but have a particular passion in encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds into our industry.

We see this as critical to the development of our industry which helps build and support our local and national communities.

Mentoring

Mentoring, both internally and externally, at ages ranging from GCSE, T-Level, Undergraduate and postgraduate, is something we take seriously as a practice. We take great pride in helping guide and teach young fledging designers to find out their passions and future career paths.

Many of our former work experience or placement students have become established staff members, growing from an undergraduate work placement to fully qualified Architects. We have established links with local universities and technical colleges, such as Birmingham City University and Thomas Telford UTC.

Work experience

Each year, we provide work experience placements for students aged 14 and above, typically supporting 10 to 15 students. During their placement, they gain practical experience across different areas of our practice, undertake tailored projects, visit live sites, learn to use a variety of industry-specific software, and present their work to colleagues and fellow students, all tailored into offering valuable insight into the profession and encouraging the next generation into the architectural profession.

Apprenticeships

We are proud to give opportunities to people at all stages of their working lives, from established professionals to those at the start of their careers, collaborating with various architecture schools such as BCU, Oxford Brookes, and RIBA Open Studio.

Community

As well as training and support for our team, through our ESG focus group in the studio, we look to support the local community via initiatives such as litter picking around the Jewellery Quarter with the JQ Bid team, supporting business-related charities and fundraising events throughout Birmingham. We also support numerous grassroots sports teams with kit and equipment sponsorship.

"A great end to our work experience week with some of our students visiting Pinnegar Hayward Design. Students embraced the world of architecture, hearing about the company and the different educational routes and careers. Lastly, students were able to showcase their artist skills of the local area and present their ideas. Thank you to Simon Wills, Dan Brown and Joshkaran Dasoria for your continued time and support."

"Thank you very much for your help over the past week, it has been very useful to understand how everything works and having a skill like this will definitely help me in the future. Also thank you for taking time out of work to help explain things to me since my brain is a bit slow!"

"This week, my son attended work experience at Pinnegar Hayward Design. Nowadays, it is up to the students to find their own work experience, and Pinnegar Hayward Design were more than happy to take him on. On Friday, I went in at the end of the day to see what he had been up to and saw that he had been given a brief to design his dream house and taught how to use Revit, the 3d modelling software, to create it. I can honestly say I was blown away by how facilitating and accommodating they were in investing in my son and the two other students they had that week. This has been the best example of investing in our future generations that I have seen, and I would like to personally thank them."
