The new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Kidderminster Hospital is part of the Government’s £350 million investment across the UK in community-based diagnostic centres.
The refurbishment scheme provides a modern Endoscopy Unit, paving the way for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to offer an enhanced service and faster access to a full range of diagnostic tests.
The scheme, which spans several floors, includes a small extension, provides an additional CT scanner, a brand new three-room endoscopy unit, extensive additional departmental services and patient support areas, and an additional ultrasound room.
Through close collaboration with the clinical team, we introduced the innovative Patient Pod concept, a first in an NHS Endoscopy setting. This unique approach, born out of our careful study of the patient journey and the initial HBN design guidance, has led to a more space-efficient layout, significantly enhancing the experience and care for all involved.
The team greatly increased the capacity of the existing unit, improved the efficiency of the service and has been highly praised by the Clinical team.
“We’re all very proud of what we can offer the local community. It’s all state of the art right the way through, from the procedure rooms to the decontamination, which is all high tech and ready to go. Everyone’s very keen and proud of what we’ve achieved. We’ve got pods set up now, as we didn’t have before. It’s very individualised we can focus care more on the individual, which we didn’t have that luxury before. It’s very forward thinking, very professional. It’s very exciting.”
“The new facility at Kidderminster is part of a wider programme of improvements to diagnostic facilities at all our hospital sites which will support our efforts to put our patients first, deliver the highest quality care possible and reduce waiting lists which have grown during the Covid pandemic. We are delighted to see all the facilities at Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre up and running."
“This is an exciting development for the people of Worcestershire. We are extremely pleased to see the opening of new facilities in Worcestershire that will benefit local people and help us to continue providing excellent patient care. The improvements are very much patient-focused and will provide modern state-of–the-art facilities, allowing us to continue to provide optimal care for patients in a timely manner, making diagnostic tests more accessible to the people of Worcestershire, with potentially shorter waiting times, delivered away from the main hospital sites, and to deliver exceptional patient care with an improved patient experience.”
