CDC & Renal Dialysis, Hollinswood House

Hollinswood House, a landmark new satellite Community Diagnostic Centre and Renal Dialysis Unit, improves access to non-urgent scans and tests for patients across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

The four-storey former office block has undergone an extensive refurbishment, taking on a new lease of life as a community-based healthcare facility for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

The project is a testament to the team's commitment to innovative thinking and the importance of repurposing existing structures to benefit our communities.

Shropshire's first CDC incorporates a range of clinical facilities and patient services, including a CT scanner, MRI, X-ray and Ultrasound, Phlebotomy and multiple consultation rooms. Phase 2, running concurrently with Phase 1, will add Tele-Dermoscopy, Cardiology and Respiratory testing to the top floor.

The community setting allows patients to access tests and scans more efficiently away from acute hospital sites, reducing waiting times for non-urgent tests. In the first three months of opening, the centre saw 13,000 patients alone, including 65,000 blood tests!

The satellite Renal department has created a brighter and more spacious environment for patients to receive dialysis treatment. Having it off-site and more easily accessible is far more convenient for people who have to attend multiple times a week.

Adopting an existing 90s office, the Design Team faced multiple challenges in converting the change of use into a modern, state-of-the-art Healthcare facility. Liaising with various departments and clinical needs to form a brand-new centre was a logistical juggle, particularly when not about to utilise the existing systems of a main hospital site.
