The creation of the 520m2 Hospitality and Catering Facility was a fast track 15 week project involving the extensive ‘back-to-structure’ refurbishment of an existing building combined with a contemporary zinc-clad extension to the front. The programme challenge was due to funding streams and terms dates which is something Phd are used to adapting to in the FE sector.
Within the building there are 2 large training kitchens (each accommodating 18+ students at any one time) and a high-class 65 cover restaurant and bar. As you would expect, the building is fully compliant with Part M regulations including the kitchens which have adjustable height work surfaces and stoves. The roadway to the front of the building was re-aligned to create an outside dining terrace connected to the restaurant through sliding folding glazed doors.
As ever on a live campus the project required careful planning and management by the PHd led team to ensure its successful completion on time and budget.
